TYPE LOCALITY: U.S.A., California, San Bernardino Co., San Bernardino Mtns., N. of San Bernardino, 4500 ft. (1372 m) .

DISTRIBUTION: From San Francisco Bay south in the Coast Range, and south of Columbia (California, U.S.A.) in the Sierra Nevada, to extreme N. Baja California ( Mexico).

COMMENT: Formerly included meridionalis and obscurus ; see Callahan, 1977, J. Mammal., 58: 188-201. See also comment under obscurus .
