Apparently not common; only one large colony 10 cm in diameter was collected during the three week survey. Morphology exactly as described by Lambert (1989). Tunic usually a pale lavender, though may be darker in areas with more dense purple pigment in the tunic. Colony encrusting, thickly irregular in shape. Known only from British Columbia and Washington ( Lambert 1989; Lamb & Hanby 2005).
