STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang by Watson (1991: 648). Also recorded as Stenogobius laterisquamatus  (non Weber, 1908) by Watson (1991: 601); previously reported as Stenogobius genivattatus  (non Valenciennes in Cuvier  & Valenciennes, 1837) by Kailola (1975: 217). DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Endemic to northern Papua  New Guinea. Found on sand or sand-gravel bottom of freshwater creeks; larvae in adjacent marine habitats, 0– 5 m. Freshwater, transitional water and marine.
