Type. Holotype male. BANGLADESH. Labelled 1. Bangladesh Rajshahi 1979; 2. Type 3 male CIEA 11732 ; 3. Pres. By Comm. Inst. Ent BM 1980-1 . ( NMHL)

Paratypes. 3 males, 2 females. Same locality as holotype. 3 males labelled as for holotype; one female as for holotype except label 2 reads ‘ type 3 female’; one female as for holotype without label 2 ( NHML) .

Diagnosis. A small species very similar in general colouration to P. vitalisi comb. nov. differing primarily in that the orange lateral and sutural margins extend around the elytral apex; T7, 8 dark brown and lateral margins of V6, and lateral and posterior margins of V7, narrowly dark brown. One of four Pygoluciola which have an aedeagal sheath sternite terminated by a boomerang shaped piece, and in which the aedeagus is wider across the middle and the membranous apical portions of the LL are wider at their bases than at their apices.

Male. 6.1 mm long. Colour ( Figs 374−376, 380, 381 View FIGURES 374−381 ): pronotum orange with underlying fat body irregularly retracted; MN and MS orange; elytra very dark brown with orange lateral and sutural margins which extend around the elytral apex; venter of thorax dark brown, legs orange yellow with dark brown tibiae and tarsi; ventrites anterior to LO brown; abdominal tergites brown, T7, 8 darker brown than preceding tergites. Pronotum: subparallel sided (A=B=C); width <humeral width. Elytron: subparallel sided, 5 x as long as median pronotal length. Head: GHW/ SIW 5/1; ASD <ASW sockets are not contiguous; antennae shorter than 2 x GHW, segments simple elongate longer than wide, pedicel with basal constriction. Mouthparts: apical labial palpomere laterally flattened like a broad triangle with inner margin dentate (2–3 teeth). Abdomen: LO in V6 retracted slightly from sides which are dark brown; LO in V7 retracted narrowly from sides and posterior margin; MPP short, broad and apically rounded; T8 parallel sided with anterolateral arms elongate slender, not bearing membranous projection on inner ventral surface; rounded posterior margin does not incline ventrally.Aedeagal sheath ( Fig. 377 View FIGURES 374−381 ): sternite expanding gradually with wide apex terminated by a ‘boomerang’ shaped hairy piece. Aedeagus ( Fig. 378, 379 View FIGURES 374−381 ): approximately twice as long as wide; basal sclerotized section of LL widest across area where the membranous parts of the LL arise, only slightly separated along their middorsal length and with base asymmetrical, produced strongly to left; ML reaching just beyond basal portion; apical membranous sections of LL wider at base than at apex; well defined hairy membranous sausage shaped lobes arising from ventral surface just behind inner origins of membranous sections of LL; membranous apical portion of LL shorter than basal sclerotized portion.

Remarks. Pygoluciola bangladeshi sp. nov. is one of four species presently assigned to Pygoluciola where the aedeagal and sheath morphology are suggestive of the related genus Abscondita , and where the sheath sternite is terminated by a boomerang shaped section. The elytral colour pattern is similar to that described for L. nicollieri from Sri Lanka ( Bugnion 1922). We are presently unable to locate a type for the latter.
