Type. Ile Waigiou (may be Waigeo off NW tip of Irian Jaya 130E, 0S). Location of holotype unknown.

Remarks. A large species (ca. 12 mm) with orange pronotum, black elytra with orange margins and red mesoscutellum. Ballantyne & Lambkin (2009: 106) discussed this species at length, concentrating on the original description of the MS as red to contrast it with specimens they assigned to Luciola limbata .
