Notes

Cells elliptical, length 6.5-15.5 μm, width 5-12 μm (Fig. 9). Chloroplast plate-like (1-many), covering most of the cell. Pyrenoid absent. Cell mucilage 0.5-1.5 μm thick. Endophytic, within two species of lichen in family Verrucariaceae (Fig. 9). Earlier descriptions of M. biatorellae indicated a broad range in cell size, however a more recent treatment of the genus ( Ettl and Gärtner 2014) suggests that cells of M. biatorellae are larger than the cells observed here.
