Neochauliodes cambodianus View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 2 , 3–4 View FIGURES 3 – 6 , 7 View FIGURES 7 – 11 )

Description. Male. Body length 19.1 mm; forewing length 28.8 mm, hindwing length 25.7 mm.

Head blackish brown, much darker on frons, with clypeus dark yellow anteriorly. Compound eyes grayish brown; ocelli yellow, medially margined black. Antennae blackish brown, with paler scape and pedicel. Mouthparts yellow; mandibles blackish brown with distal 1/3 reddish brown, maxillary and labial palpi with distal two segments blackish brown.

Thorax brown, with median portions of meso- and meta nota pale yellow. Legs brown except for coxae, trochanters, and femora dark yellow, with short, dense, yellowish setae; femora with apices dark, fore tibia with a longitudinal yellowish stripe anteriorly, tarsal claws pale reddish brown. Wings hyaline, slightly tinged with smoky brown; pterostigmatic area short, whitish. Forewing with numerous brown spots on proximal half of costal area and wing bases, and respectively with a long and a short brown stripe beside pterostigmatic area, proximal long stripe posteriorly extending to last branch of Rs; markings on distal 2/3 of forewing faintly brown, mainly dotted along longitudinal veins. Hindwing immaculate proximally, medially with a broad band-like brown marking extending from costal area to last branch of Rs, and distally with a few faintly brown spots along Rs. Veins brown. Rs 4 to 5- branched, feebly curved posteriad; three crossveins between R and Rs.

Abdomen blackish brown. Ninth tergum ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 3 – 6 ) narrowed and produced anteroventrad in lateral view. Ectoproct ( Figs. 3–4 View FIGURES 3 – 6 ) in lateral view subtrapezoidal, with rather oblique dorsal margin, and with round posterodorsal and posteroventral corners; in dorsal view apicomedial area slightly inflated, bearing rows of brushy setae and a few spinous setae. Tenth gonocoxite ( Figs. 3 View FIGURES 3 – 6 , 7 View FIGURES 7 – 11 ) strongly sclerotized, lateral arms shortly foliate and bifurcated in ventral view, connected with median plate by narrow protrusions; median plate narrowly elongate, and tongue-like in ventral view, anteriorly incised V-shaped, posteriorly feebly narrowed and convex; median plate in lateral view straightly directed, with median portion slightly broadened.

Female. Unknown.

Type material. Holotype 3, CAMBODIA: Ratanakiri Prov., Veunsai, 13°59’N, 106°49’E, 10/ 15.X.2007, S. DeGreef & P. Naskreki ( IRSNB).

Distribution. Cambodia (Ratanakiri).

Etymology. The specific epithet ‘ cambodianus ’ refers to the distribution of the new species in Cambodia.

Remarks. The new species represents the first record of the order Megaloptera in Cambodia. Considering the appearance, the new species rather resembles N. moriutii which mainly occurs in northern part of Indochina by the similar wings’ marking patterns. However, the ectoprocts of N. cambodianus have dorsal protrusion with dorsal margins in lateral view rather oblique, while N. moriutii has ventral protrusion on ectoprocts with ventral margins in lateral view rather oblique, and the male tenth gonocoxite of the new species is much narrower than that in N. moriutii ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 7 – 11 ).
