Trichomanes tunbrigense Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 1098. 1753.
"Habitat in Anglia, Italia." RCN: 7949.
Type not designated.
Original material: Herb. Linn. No. 1253.4 ( LINN) ; [icon] in Plukenet, Phytographia: 10, t. 3, f. 5, 6. 1691; Almag. Bot.: 10. 1696; [icon] in Boccone, Mus. Piante Rar. Sicilia: 24, t. 2. 1697.
Current name: Hymenophyllum tunbrigense (L.) Sm. ( Hymenophyllaceae ).
Note: Evans & Jermy (in Brit. Fern Gaz. 9: 84. 1962) stated that Linnaeus based his concept on an English plant (meaning 1253.5 LINN?), but Proctor (Ferns Jamaica: 90. 1985) noted that 1253.5 (LINN) was a post-1753 addition to the herbarium and so cannot be the type.
