CORONIS CRAMER, 1775

Pap[ilio] Dan[aus] Cand[idus] coronis Cramer, 1775: 69 , 152, pl.44, figs B, C [original plate 122, figs B, C]. China and ‘Côte de Coromandel’ [= south-eastern India].

Papilio View in CoL Danaus View in CoL Candidus coronis, Stoll, 1782b: 5 [No. 56].

Material examined. Possible syntype ♀, ‘ Coronis Cram. ’, Felder coll. ( BMNH (E)#665094), is a fair, although not exact, match for original plate 122, figs B, C; it has been re-pinned and there have been some repairs, especially the right hindwing. 1 ♂, with van Lennep label ‘No.56 CORONIS Cr. I. 44. B. C.’ ( BMNH (E)#665095) is much more similar to the figures of Cepora nerissa evagete Cramer on original plate 190 and may be a syntype of that species; it has clearly been re-pinned and the hindwings extensively repaired. I consider that the van Lennep label has become associated with the wrong specimen.

Current status. Junior subjective synonym of Cepora nerissa nerissa (Fabricius, 1775) ( Yata, 1981) [type locality needs to be restricted].

CREONA CRAMER, 1776 View in CoL

( FIG. 27 View Figures 27–32 )

Pap[ilio] Dan[aus] Cand[idus] creona Cramer, 1776: 148–149 , 152, pl.95, figs B, C, E, F [original plate 62, figs C, C, D, D]. ‘Indes Orientales’ [error = African] (B.Vriends).

Papilio View in CoL Danaus View in CoL Candidus creona, Stoll, 1782b: 5 [No. 61].

Material examined. Possible syntypes 1 ♂, 1 ♀, no data, ex Felder collection ( BMNH (E)#665111–2), are a fair match for original plate 62, figs C, C, D, D. The female ( Fig. 27 View Figures 27–32 ) is the better match of the two. Both appear to have been re-pinned and the female has undergone some repairs. Because van Lennep bought the Vriends collection, it is possible that these specimens include type material .

Current status. Valid species in Belenois ( Ackery et al., 1995) .

CROCALE CRAMER, 1775 View in CoL

( FIG. 28 View Figures 27–32 )

Pap[ilio] Dan[aus] Cand[idus] crocale Cramer, 1775: 87 , 152, pl.55, figs C, D [original plate 50, figs D, D]. ‘Indes Orientales’ (loaned from B.Vriends).

Papilio View in CoL Danaus View in CoL Candidus crocale, Stoll, 1782b: 5 [No. 24].

Material examined. Syntype ♀, with van Lennep label ‘ No. 24 CROCALE Cr. I. 55. C. D’ ( BMNH (E)#665074) is quite a good match for original plate 50, figs D, D; it has been re-pinned .

Current status. Junior subjective synonym of Catopsilia pomona (Fabricius, 1775) ( Yata, 1981) .
