8. Pachybrachis nubilus Bowditch, 1909

Pachybrachys nubilus Bowditch 1909: 312 . Fall

1915: 444 (taxonomy). Pachybrachis nubilus : Riley et al. 2003: 161 (catalog); Barney 2021a: 491 (taxonomy). Pachybrachys conspirator Fall 1915: 445 . Pachybrachis conspirator : Riley et al. 2003: 156

(catalog); Barney 2021a: 491 (taxonomy).

Remarks. Bowditch (1909) described P. nubilis from two Arizona males and a female from Utah. Consult Barney (2021a) for a species description, figures of lectotype, specimens examined, and distribution map. No additional specimens examined.

9. Pachybrachis placidus Fall, 1915 ( Fig. 7 View Fig )

Pachybrachys placidus Fall 1915: 346 . Pachybrachis placidus : Riley et al. 2003: 165

(catalog).

Type. Fall (1915) described P. placidus based upon two female specimens from the mountains of southeastern Arizona. The single female syntype located in Fall’s collection, hereby designated lectotype, labeled “Huachu. Mts. / VII-14 [hand-inked] Ariz [printed, white paper] // Miller Can / H.A. Wenzel [printed, white paper] // TYPE [printed] / placidus [hand-inked, white paper] // M.C.Z. / Type [printed] / 24966 [hand-inked, red paper] // H.C. FALL / COLLECTION [printed, white paper] // LECTOTYPE / Pachybrachys / placidus Fall / R. J. Barney 2023 [printed, red paper]”, was examined and photographed ( Fig. 7 View Fig ).

Redescription. Female. Yellow with brown punctation ( Fig. 7 View Fig ); L = 3.23 mm (n = 1); W = 1.74 mm (n = 1); L/W = 1.86 (n = 1). Head: Slightly wider than thoracic apex, HW = 1.14 mm (n = 1); eyes narrowly separated without distinct ocular lines, IOD = 0.20 mm (n = 1); IOD/HW = 0.18 (n = 1); face reddish yellow, moderately punctate. Pronotum: Reddish-yellow, moderately punctate, less so at margins; PL = 1.02 mm (n = 1); PW = 1.52 mm (n = 1); PL/PW = 0.67 (n = 1). Elytra: Yellow, submarginal stria fairly regular, marginal interspace devoid of punctures in apical half. Pygidium: Yellow. Venter: Brown. Legs: Yellow.

Remarks. Fall (1915) mentioned that only two female specimens were available to him, and only lists Huachuca Mountains in his “Distribution” section. Besides the lectotype described above, the only other specimen in the Fall Collection was a female from Southern California with ocular lines. Fall specifically stated that P. placidus has “narrowly separated eyes and absence of ocular lines”. This specimen is definitely not P. placidus and is not part of the syntype series. There are no known males.

Distribution. Riley et al. (2003) reported P. placidus from Arizona.

Specimens Examined. Lectotype. USA: ARIZONA: Huachuca Mts. , Miller Canyon, 14.vii, H.A. Wenzel [1♀, LECTOTYPE, MCZ-FALL].
