Phaca alpina Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 755. 1753.
"Habitat in Lapponia, Sibiria." RCN: 5570.
Lectotype (Greuter in Candollea 23: 265. 1968): Herb. Linn. No. 925.3 ( LINN) .
Generitype of Phaca Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 176. 1929).
Current name: Astragalus penduliflorus Lam. ( Fabaceae : Faboideae ).
Note: Phaca baetica was treated as the generitype by Britton & Brown (Ill. Fl. N. U. S., ed. 2, 2: 385. 1913; see McNeill & al. in Taxon 36: 380. 1987). However, under Art. 10.5, Ex. 7 (a voted example) of the Vienna Code, this is a type choice made under the American Code and is to be replaced under Art. 10.5b by Green’s choice (Prop. Brit. Bot.: 176. 1929) of P. alpina L.
There is some doubt whether, taxonomically, the Siberian and European plants included by Linnaeus are conspecific. If treated as conspecific, the correct name is A. penduliflorus Lam. , “alpina” being pre-occupied in Astragalus by A. alpinus L. (1753) .
