Lophopoeum saronoto Bates, 1872: 215 View in CoL .

Remarks. This species was described from a single specimen from Nicaragua. Currently it is known from Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama ( Monné 2023a; Tavakilian & Chevillotte 2022).

The original description does not allow recognition of the species. Furthermore, the figure by Bates (1881) also does not agree with the photograph of the holotype. Bates (1885) redescribed the species: “The original description of this species was drawn up from a single specimen from Chontales, which seems to be defective in coloration and in the clearness and depth of the black markings of the elytra and legs.” However, the photograph of the holotype allows recognition of the species, indicating that the problem was in the original description. Herein we are providing photographs of a specimen from Panama to help with future identifications of the species.
