REMARKS
Riccia melitensis , known only from the type locality on Gozo, has recently been synonymized under R. ciliifera ( Hugonnot 2015) . Surprisingly, R. melitensis / ciliifera has never been found again on the Maltese Islands though it seems to belong there together with Riccia sorocarpa to the most frequent member of this genus, sometimes occurring in large mats of up to more than 1 m 2. At its type locality in Xlendi valley on Gozo (Loc. 8) however, it could not be relocated.
