Measurements. Head length (1.1–1.8); head width (2.2–2.9); pronotum length (2.1–2.6); pronotum width (5.8–7.2); scutellum length (4.7–5.8); scutellum width (3.7–4.8); length of antennal segments (I: 0.6–0.8; II: 0.8– 1.2; III: 0.8–1.5; IV: 1.2–2.0; V: 1.9–2,1); total length (10.4–13.4); abdominal width (6.1–7.7).

Diagnose. Pronotum smooth. Arms of the anterior bifurcation of the metasternal process short and laterally inclined ( Fig. 5E View FIGURE 5 ); excavation very short receiving only the apex of the fourth rostral segment. Peritreme reaching half of the distance between ostiole of the scent gland and lateral margin of the body ( Fig. 8E View FIGURE 8 ). Evaporatorium with a long and raised crest in mesopleuron delimited by sulci; contiguous margin of meso and metapleuron barely raised; metapleuron with two barely raised crests one short medial and the other long distal. Spiracles concolorous with ventral surface. Trichobothria in yellowish calli. Antennomeres I–III and legs with small brown spots.

Male ( Figs 5 A–C View FIGURE 5 ). Superior process of the genital cup formed by tiny brown tubercles. Ventral part of the paramere with two distinct lobes, one globose and the other digitiform and distinctly projected posteriorly; base of the paramere narrower than distal part.

Female ( Fig. 5 D View FIGURE 5 ). Gonocoxites 8 setulose; distal margin sinuous, forming two small tooth-like projections on lateral angles; sutural border divergent distally. Laterotergites 9 with base wrinkled and excavated.

Comments. Edessa eucnema sp. n. is easily identified by the spotted legs and antenna while the other species are spotless. Females show gonocoxites 8 with tooth-like projections differently from the other species with rounded outline, though the females of Edessa exigusternata sp. n. and E. rugulata sp. n. are unknown at present. Distribution ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 ). Brazil: Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
