Locus typicus: Canada, Alberta, Munn Creek, 53.30°N, 118.10°W, Spruce forest . Holotype: Male , 11.vi.‒23.vii.1994, leg. E. Fuller, Malaise trap ( PWMP). GoogleMaps

Description. Male. Head. Eye bridge 4 facets wide; antennae brown; 4th flagellomere with l/w-index of 3.2, haired as long as diameter, neck rather long. Palpus are 3-segmented, first segment with one bristle and a deep sensory pit. Thorax. Brown, coxae and femora somewhat paler; scutum haired rather long; scutellum with two long bristles; posterior pronotum bare. Wings brownish; R1 = 3/4 R; c = 2/3 w; y = x; y with macrotrichia; posterior wing veins distinct, without macrotrichia. Haltere are rather long, knobs brownish. Legs somewhat paler than thorax; tibial organ of fore tibiae with a patch of dark bristles, weakly bordered; spurs of middle and hind tibiae equally long, somewhat longer than the tibial apex wide; claws are toothless. Abdomen. Hypopygium without intergonocoxal lobe or bristle patch; gonocoxites are short and strong, the inner ventral margin is basely haired densely; gonostylus short and thick, inner side concaved, with a dark apical tooth and 7 spines: 3 spines at apex (one located more isolate), 4 further spines in and below the middle. Tegmen is wider than high, with darkened corners, fine teeth and a strong basal structure. Aedeagus is rather short. Body length: 3 mm.

Comments. The species is characterized by short and strong gonocoxites and a nearly round gonostylus, possessing a strong apical tooth and 7 spines, 4 of them in and below the middle of the inner side. Camptochaeta abnormalis sp. n. resembles Camptochaeta xystica Hippa & Vilkamaa, 1994 in the arrangement of the gonostylar spines but it differs in having four medial spines instead of three, a broader gonostylus with shorter and denser setosity as well as in having its tegmen apically nearly truncate, whereas Cam. xystica has its tegmen highly conical.
