The medicinal uses of this plant in the Caribbean region, as well as its chemistry, biological activity, toxicity and dosages, are discussed by Germosén-Robineau (1997). In the classification of this species espoused by Mabberley (1997), the sour orange or Seville orange is in Citrus aurantium Sour Orange Group; the sweet orange is in Citrus aurantium Sweet Orange Group; and the grapefruit is in Citrus aurantium Grapefruit Group, whereas in the current treatment we have retained a traditional arrangement in which the sour orange or Seville orange is recognized as Citrus aurantium ; the sweet orange as Citrus sinensis ; and the grapefruit as Citrus paradisi .
