Geographical distribution: endemic to the Neotropical region, occurring from Cuba to the Argentinean Patagonia.

Material from Cuba: Isla de la Juventud, Cayo Piedra, 20.IV.1973, Cuban-Romanian Biospeological Expedition leg., 1 ɗ (SIB) ( Nieser 1977).

Habitat: marginal or emergent vegetation of freshwater pools of various sizes, ponds, lakes, or stagnant areas of streams and rivers.
