Holotype: ♂ PAPUA NEW GUINEA, Milne Bay Prov., Lousiade Archipelago, Rossel Island, south slopes of Mount Rossel [vic. - 11.366667 S, 154.233333 E], 17.X.1956, leg. 5th Archbold Expedition ( RMNH) [the locality on the envelope reads: “ Rossel I., Camp 13,” with additional locality details taken from Brass (1959)]. Paratypes: Same location and collectors as holotype: 3 ♂♂, 9–18.X.1956; 5 ♂♂, 16.X.1956; 2 ♂♂, 2 ♀♀, 16–18.X.1956; 9 ♂♂, 2 ♀♀ 17.X.1956; 5 ♂♂, 18.X.1956; 2 ♀♀, 18–19.X.1956 ( RMNH, BPBM) .

Etymology. The name “rossel” refers to Rossel Island, to which this species is apparently endemic.
