Type locality

Frontera, Tabasco, Mexico.

Type material examined: Holotype female on point [USNM], in poor condition, labeled: 1. “parts mounted”; 2. “4274° “aring Icerya palmeri Tabasco Mex June 28–97.”; 3. “ Holotype ”; 4. “Type No. 28143 U.S. N.M.”; 5. “ Aztecencyrtus flavus Timb. Type”. Also parts of the holotype (mouthparts, an antenna [missing a clava], and a forewing) mounted on a slide [USNM], labeled: 1. “ Aztecencyrtus flavus Timb. Female antenna, wings mouthparts. Tabasco, Mexico. June 28, 1897. no. 4274°”; 2. “Type No. 28143 U.S. N.M.”.

Distribution Mexico.

Host Icerya palmeri Riley & Howard ( Timberlake 1926) .

Comments Member of the flava species group. The forewing of the holotype female is about 3.1x as long as wide.

Aztecencyrtus iceryae (Howard) View in CoL : Noyes 1980: 180; Trjapitzin et al. 2004: 52.

Type locality Kingston, Jamaica.

Type material examined

Holotype female, in poor condition, on point (mesosoma and a forewing) and a card (metasoma and leg parts) [ USNM], labeled: 1. “ Holotype ”; 2. “Kingston J. 1892”; 3. “4650°”; 4. “Type No. 1490 U.S.N.M.”; 5. “ Cerchysius iceryae How. Type”; 6. “female Cerchysius iceryae Howard det. J.S. Noyes, 1978 HOLOTYPE ”. One forewing from the holotype was slidemounted at UCRC in Canada balsam in 2005.

Distribution Jamaica.

Host Crypticerya rosae (Riley & Howard) (Howard 1892) . Comments

Member of the flava species group. The forewing of the holotype female ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 9, 10 ) is about 2.9x as long as wide. Somewhat similar in coloration of the body (especially the gaster) and infuscation of the forewing to B. flava ; however, in B. iceryae ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 9, 10 ) the stigmal vein of the forewing is notably longer than the postmarginal vein (about equal in length in B. flava , Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7, 8 ), also these two veins are at a notably wider angle to each other and the area between them is significantly more setose in B. iceryae than in B. flava .

Acknowledgments

We thank Vladimir V. Berezovskiy (UCRC) for dissecting and slidemounting two of the paratype specimens of the new species in Canada balsam, and Michael W. Gates for the loans of the type material from the USNM. John S. Noyes ( BMNH) made many useful suggestions on the initial draft of the manuscript. Svetlana N. Myartseva ( Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas, Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico) kindly let us examine the specimens of Brethesiella reared by her in Mexico .
