Allocladius Kieffer, 1913 View in CoL
Two species of Allocladius are recorded from Alaska, Allocladius arenarius (Strenzke, 1960) and Allocladius nanseni (Kieffer, 1926) based on Ferrington & Saether (2011). A larva of A. arenarius was collected from ponds on Barter Island, in the Beaufort Sea, along the far northwest corner of Alaska in 1975 ( Ferrington & Saether 2011). We collected the adults of A. nanseni at Point Barrow in early July and near Naknek Lake in late July. We also collected an adult of A. nanseni in early May near the Margaret Creek outlet on Revillagigedo Island. Allocladius arenarius is believed to be an obligate parthenogenetic species. Larvae of both Allocladius species are tolerant of brackish waters ( Ferrington & Saether 2011) and live mainly in wet soils, near the edge of water bodies, or even higher ( Moller Pillot 2014).
