Olixon martini Lohrmann View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 5–6, 9 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 11, 13, 15 View FIGURES 10 – 15 )

Type material. Holotype: Madagascar: Toliara Province, Rés. Spécial d´Ankazotaihitafototra, 35.2 km, 312° NW Ambaravaranala, Elevevation: 1050m, 13–17 Jan. 2003, 18 °16'00''S, 045°24'24''E, Sifted litter – montane rainforest, Collectors: Fisher & Griswold et al., ( CAS, collection code: BLF7020, CASENT: 2051706). Paratype: Ψ, as holotype, but pitfall trap – montane rainforest ( CAS, collection code: BLF7018, CASENT: 2051707).

Diagnosis. Females of O. martini are very similar to that of O. toliaraensis but can easily be differentiated: Vertex lacking a medial impression; occipital carina lacking an indentation; flagellomere I 2.7 to 2.9 as long as wide.

Description of female. Body length 4.6 mm.

Head: Maximum width in frontal view 0.75 to 0.8 mm. Vertex with very fine, moderately dense setae that arise from very small punctures. Frons with medial longitudinal groove. Eyes separated from occipital carina by about 0.7 to 0.8 times width of scape. Lateral ocelli present but very small, mid ocellus lacking. Apicolateral carina lacking indentation ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 10 – 15 ). Gena lacking malar groove ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). Flagellomer I 2.7 to 2.9 times as long as wide. Flagellomers with small, regularly distributed setae.

Mesosoma: Propodeum with incomplete transverse (slightly convex) carina between two apicolateral teeth ( Figs. 11, 13 View FIGURES 10 – 15 ).

Wings: Forewing paddle shaped, reaching base of tergite II, length 1.03 to 1.15 mm. Hindwing present as very small vestige.

Legs: Forefemur swollen. Hindfemur 3.0 to 3.7 times as long as high. Tarsomeres widened with dense setae, their fourth segment with apicolateral angels, one angle about 1.6–1.7 times as long as the other.

Metasoma: Tergite I with strong premedian transverse and behind median longitudinal carina. Tergite II with dense setae on first third anterior without setae. Tergite 3 with stridulatory organ (more or less) triangular.

Color: Head, mesosoma, metasoma dark brown to blackish. Flagellum and legs beyond 1/3 of femur brown. Scape light brown. Pedicel, Coxa, trochanter and apical 1/3 of femur whitish.

Life history. Nothing is known about the life history of Olixon martini . Only two females are known, and these have been collected at an altitude of 1050 m. One was caught in a pitfall trap and the other in sifted litter in mountain rainforest.

Etymological note. This species is named in honour of my father, Martin Lohrmann, in remembrance of our mutual interests in biology and our fieldtrips.
