Holotype:—In cultivation, P. Miller s.n. 148 ( BM barcode BM000939062 ! [digital image])

Taxonomic notes: — Pavonia fruticosa is a shrub, that can be identified in the field by their by its pubescent branches, lanceolate leaves (5.8‒19 × 1.9‒9.2 cm), terminal flowers, six lanceolate bracteoles, connate epicalyx, and 3-aristate, mericarps.

Distribution, habitat, and IUCN threat status: —It occurs in Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Windward Islands, Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil ( Fryxell 1999). Brazil is registered in the regions of North (Acre, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia and Roraima), Northeast (Alagoas, Bahia, Maranhão, Paraíba, and Pernambuco) and Midwest (Goiás) (Flora e Funga do Brasil, 2020). Pernambuco is recorded in eight municipalities in the Mata Zone , Mata Úmida subzone. Occurs into the Refúgio de Vida Silvestre Mata do Toró, Parque Estadual Dois Irmãos, Refúgio Ecológico Charles Darwin, da Reserva Ecológica da Mata de Dois Irmãos, and Reserva Biológica Saltinho. This species presents larger EOO of 19,578,246.078 Km² and AOO of 2,312.000 Km². In addition, it occurs in several locations and no threats were observed. Therefore, is here considered Least Concern (LC).

Phenology: —Flowering and fruiting throughout year.
