Genus Paranesotanais Larsen & Shimomura, 2008 View in CoL

Type species. Paranesotanais longicephalus Larsen & Shimomura, 2008 View in CoL

Diagnosis (modified from Larsen & Shimomura 2008, new features highlighted in boldface). Female. Pereonites 4–6 longer than wide. Maxilliped endite almost completely fused, without short flat setae. Cheliped fixed finger with five ventral setae and one distal apophysis; dactylus with dorsal crenulation.

Male. Carapace bottled-shaped, longer than first four pereonites combined. Antennule article-1 long, about 0.7 times as long as antennule. Antenna article-4 long, half as long as antenna. Maxilliped endite absent; palp four-articled, article-4 with one distal lamellar seta. Cheliped basis without apophysis; merus with one ventral apophysis; propodus without spur; fixed finger without apophysis; dactylus twisted inwards, with one proximal and one middle apophysis.

Both sexes. Rostrum bilobed. Pleonites 1–4 with two lateral setae; pleonite-5 with one lateral seta. Antenna article-2 distal half dorsally expanded, covered with numerous small tubercles. Pereopods 4–6 dactylus plus unguis falciform, with one ventral pit.

Remarks. This is a rare genus that was previously recorded with only one species, P. longicephalus Larsen & Shimomura, 2008 , from Akajima, Japan, and partially redescribed from Kakeroma Island, Japan. Based on the original description and redescription of P. longicephalus , as well as the features of the new species, the generic diagnosis is amended to include the features shared by the two species but exclude those that are unshared ( Larsen & Shimomura 2008; Kakui & Yamasaki 2013).
