Eucharitolus depressus View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 1–4 View FIGURES 1 – 4 , 14 View FIGURE 14 )

Description. Male. Integument dark-brown. Pubescence light whitish gray. Antennomeres III–XI brown. Each elytron with 10 brown spots arranged in three transverse rows of three spots each one and a single spot in apical region, the first row just below anterior margin, the second before the middle with a lateral spot not visible dorsally and the third row with a large “m” shaped fascia laterally. Apices of tibiae and tarsomeres dark-brown.

Upper eye lobes well separated, distance between them twice the width of the upper lobe. Antennae exceeding elytral apices at antennomere VI. Scape 1/6 shorter than antennomere III; III–IX subequal in length, X 1 /6 longer than IX, antennomere XI twice the length of X. Pronotum finely, uniformly punctate; sides with a basally dilated lateral tubercle. Anterior region of pronotum with a transverse depression ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ). Prosternal process slightly narrowed in the middle, almost as wide as procoxal cavity. Mesosternal process 2/3 as wide as mesocoxal cavity.

Elytra almost 3.5 times as long as prothorax, surface with fine punctures, becoming denser in anterior half. Humeri slightly projected anteriorly and laterally. Region in the anterior third, near the suture, with a slight depression. Apices obliquely truncate, angles slightly produced.

Protibiae with a small ventral tooth on basal third ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ); apex of mesotibiae with two acute projections; metatarsomere I 1.5 times as long as II–III together. Apex of urotergite V strongly emarginate; urosternite V emarginate, “v” shaped.

Female. Protibial tooth reduced. Apex of urotergite V acute and gradually narrowed distally; urosternite V obliquely truncate and slightly emarginate, exceeding elytral apices by almost half its length.

Measurements, in mm. male/female. n= 3/4. Total length, 8.30±0.66/7.55±1.16; prothorax length, 1.67±0.15/ 1.33±0.13; prothorax width at its widest point, 2.77±0.32/2.38±0.35; elytral length, 5.90±0.40/5.30±0.73; humeral width, 3.27±0.35/2.90±0.52.

Etymology. Latin, depressus means depression, refers to transverse depression in the pronotum.

Type material. Holotype male, BRAZIL, Espírito Santo: Conceição da Barra (Pedro Canário), XI.1972, B. Silva leg. ( MNRJ). Paratypes: Conceição da Barra (Pedro Canário), male, 3 females, XI.1972, B. Silva leg.; Linhares (50 m), female, XI.1968; (Parque Sooretama), female, I.1963, F.M. Oliveira leg.; ( MNRJ)

Remarks. Eucharitolus depressus sp. nov. is similar to E. lituratus in having the prosternal process at least half as wide as the procoxal cavity. It differs in having the anterior region of the pronotum with a transverse depression ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ) and the protibiae with a small ventral tooth on the basal third ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ).
