Revised description. Large, very slender conical, high spired, weakly gradate shell of up to 23 teleoconch whorls; apical angle ~8–12°. Protoconch unknown. Early teleoconch whorls subcylindrical to weakly conical, flat sided. Nearly smooth subsutural band delimited by distinct spiral groove. Axial sculpture of weak, slightly opisthocyrt axial ribs, becoming indistinct at about 12 th whorl. Later whorls subcylindrical to weakly concave below subsutural band. Subsutural band usually smooth except for prosocline growth lines and occasional spiral threads. Spiral groove simple or with faint punctations caused by raised growth lines. Sculpture below groove strongly reduced except for distinct sigmoidal growth lines. Last whorl low, subcylindrical, with rounded basal angulation, ~20% of total height. Base strongly constricted. Aperture small, narrow. Fasciole broad, convex, with prominent growth increments, adapically delimited by narrow carina. Columella strongly twisted, excavated in adapical half, with two columellar folds. Lower columellar fold prominent, upper fold weak. Marked angulation between columella and convex parietal area. Columellar callus forming broad rim, moderately delimited from base. Anal canal indistinctly incised. Outer lip thin. Siphonal canal moderately long, narrow, strongly twisted, deflected to the left, weakly notched at tip.

Discussion. Terebra acuminata is characterized by its high-spired, slender shell and reduced sculpture. It shows some variability in the strength of the growth lines. Such slender shells have been frequently confused with Terebra neglecta ( Michelotti, 1847) , thus blurring the understanding of both species. Terebra neglecta , however, is much smaller, has a lower spire composed of fewer whorls, prominent beads on the subsutural band and prominent axial ribs that persist onto the last whorl.

Paleoenvironment. The species occurs in large numbers in silty sand of inner neritic settings, partly with seagrass (e.g., Gainfarn, Steinebrunn) ( Zuschin et al. 2007) down to clays in middle to outer neritic settings (Baden, Bad Vöslau) ( Kranner et al. 2021).
