Revised description. Medium sized, very slender conical shell with gradate spire, of up to 20 teleoconch whorls; apical angle ~10–15°. Protoconch unknown. Early teleoconch whorls with broad axial ribs, separated by interspaces of about equal width. Axial ribs slightly more prominent close above abapical suture, causing weakly convex profile. Subsutural band narrow, weakly beaded, slightly recessed. Later whorls slightly telescopic with prominent, beaded subsutural band, delimited by deep subsutural groove. Whorl profile weakly concave below subsutural band. Sculpture of dense opisthocyrt axial ribs.Adapical tips of axial ribs forming spiral row of beads.Axial ribs usually prominent but may be strongly reduced especially on later teleoconch whorls. Last whorl low, ~22–25% of total height, subcylindrical, with rounded basal angulation. Base strongly constricted. Fasciole prominent, convex, broad, with few strong growth increments, adapically delimited by weak carina. Aperture narrow, pyriform, slightly excavated in adapical half. Columella twisted with two columellar folds; lower one prominent; adapical fold weaker. Anal canal narrowly incised. Outer lip thin. Siphonal canal moderately long, narrow, twisted, slightly deflected to the left, shallowly notched at tip.

Discussion. This species was first described by Manzoni (1870) who referred to a collection name given by Ludwig Heinrich Döderlein (1855–1936). By illustrating and describing Terebra tuberculifera , he made the name available, and authorship is passed to Manzoni (1870). Because Sacco (1891a: 23) referred to another species as Terebra tuberculifera (with only one spiral row of beads), he introduced the variety name pergranularis for the same species as illustrated by Manzoni (1870). Therefore, Terebra pergranularis ( Sacco, 1891a) is a subjective junior synonym of Terebra tuberculifera Manzoni, 1870 . Kojumdgieva in Kojumdgieva & Strachimirov (1960) recognized this species also from the Paratethys Sea. Later, Davoli (1977) considered Terebra pergranularis as synonym of Terebra acuminata ( Borson, 1820) , but discussed it as a distinct and common ‘group’ in the Middle Miocene of the Vienna Basin and the Late Miocene and Pliocene of the Po Basin. Terebra tuberculifera is only superficially similar to Terebra acuminata ( Borson, 1820) , due to its slender shell, but is characterized by its double row of beads formed by the subsutural and the adapical tips of the axial ribs. This feature does not occur in T. acuminata , which has much reduced sculpture from about the 12 th teleoconch whorl. Terebra neglecta Michelotti, 1847 differs in its smaller size, composed of fewer subconical whorls, less slender outline, and it lacks the spiral row of beads below the spiral groove.

Terebra acuminatum var. pergranularis ( Sacco, 1891a) , from the Tortonian of S. Agata ( Italy) is considered herein as subjective junior synonym of Terebra tuberculifera Manzoni, 1870 .

Paleoenvironment. The localities comprise coastal marine environments and deeper water settings.

Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Vienna Basin: Baden. Bad Vöslau ( Austria) ( Hörnes 1852, hoc opus); Cserhát Mountains ( Hungary) ( Csepreghy-Meznerics 1954); Bükk Mountains: Bóta ( Hungary) ( Csepreghy-Meznerics 1972); Caransebeş Basin: DelineŞti, Rugi ( Romania) ( Stancu & Andreescu 1968); Dacian Basin: Bivolare ( Bulgaria) (Kojumdgieva in Kojumdgieva & Strachimirov 1960).

Proto-Mediterranean Sea. Tortonian (Late Miocene): Po Basin: S. Agata, Tortona ( Italy) ( Sacco 1891a; Davoli 1977); Emilia Romagna : Sogliano ( Italy) ( Manzoni 1870); Pliocene: Astigiana, Vezza d’Alba ( Italy) ( Sacco 1891a).
