Notes

This Neotropical genus comprises 11 species according to the last taxonomic revision by Edmonds and Zídek (2004) which was used for species identification. Oxysternon beetles are usually found in primary and secondary forests ( Gigliotti et al. 2011). The literature on the biology of the genus is scarce, but most species are considered as coprophagous and inhabit moist forests ( Edmonds and Zídek 2004). Two species were recorded in this study: Oxysternon macleayi Nevinson, 1892 and O. silenus Castelnau, 1840 (Fig. 5 B-C).
