Pedestal underside: Australie / Cette L. Naturaliste / M. Maugé / Capte Baudin / 10.100 / Philemon = / (illegible) = Philemon buceroides / P. timoriensis SW / (Mull) Type. Pedestal label: Philemon buceroides (Sw.) / Ardea timoriensis (Mull.) Type / Exp. Baudin Timor.

Comments.

Swainson studied one bird in the MNHN. The Baudin expedition bird represents the only specimen in the MNHN (MNHN Laboratory, ZMO-GalOis 4). The bird which was once in NMS (Dufresne Ms 1818: 87) was not a type and is no longer present (Bob McGowan in litt.). The type locality is erroneous (New Holland), and therefore corrected and restricted to: West-Timor, near Kupang Bay (article 76a.2.A (ICZN 1999)). Swainson named this species Philemon buceroides or 'resembling a hornbill’ ( Jobling 2017).
