Tomares ballus (Fabricius) has a spherical egg, flattened at the poles and with a grid formed by scarcely prominent cells. Cells are even less prominent in the micropylar area which clearly differentiates this egg from that of other members of the Eumaeini tribe ( Callophrys and Satyrium ). The surface of the bottom of the cells is smooth both in the annular and tubercle-aeropyle zones. The annular zone has no distinctive features other than the smaller size of the cells.
