Panorpa affinis Banks 1895: 315 (♂ description, comparison with nebulosa View in CoL ); Hine 1901: 247 (changed the name to banksii as name preoccupied by affinis Leach 1815 , a European species).

Holotype ♂ affinis : MCZC [ MCZ-ENT00011266 ]. USA. NY, Nassau Co., Long Island , Sea Cliff, date unknown.

Holotype ♂: MCZC [ MCZ-ENT00016524 ]. USA. MA, Middlesex Co., Holliston , 12-vi-1897, F. H. Sprague. Note that while Carpenter (1931) reported the location as Wollaston, MA, the label reads Holliston, MA . Allotype ♀: UMMZ [ UMMZ-00302167 ], USA. MI, Oakland Co., Birmingham , 10.vii.1927, N. K. Bigelow . Paratypes: AMNH (1♂) , CUIC (1♂) , INHS (1♂) , MCZC (2U), location unknown (4U).
