Replaced synonym of: Perilla ocymoides L. (1764) , nom. illeg.;, Mentha perilloides L. (1767) , nom. illeg.

Lectotype (Paton in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 74. 1993): [icon] "Ocymum Zeylanicum perenne, odoratissimum, latifolium" in Burman, Thes. Zeylan.: 174, t. 80, f. 1. 1737 (see p. 68).

Current name: Perilla frutescens (L.) Britton View in CoL View at ENA ( Lamiaceae ).

Note: Hedge (in Ali & Nasir, Fl. Pakistan 192: 265. 1990) designated Herb. Linn. No. 731.2 ( LINN) as type but this is an Arduino collection not received by Linnaeus until 1763 and not original material for the name. See notes on the large number of different taxa included by Linnaeus within this name in Jarvis (in Webbia 48: 497. 1994).
