Neostatherotis angustata View in CoL , sp. nov.

Figs. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 4 , 7, 9 View FIGURES 5 – 10

Types. Holotype: ♂, Nanling (23°20' N, 115°23' E), Guangdong Province, 17–20.V.2008, leg. Liusheng Chen, genitalia slide no. YHL07132. Paratype: 1♀, same data as holotype.

Diagnosis. This new species is similar to Neostatherotis nipponica Oku, 1974 in the male genitalia, but can be separated from it by the short hooked uncus in the male genitalia and by the flower petal-shaped signa with blunt edges in the female genitalia. In N. nipponica , the uncus is reduced, and the signa are horseshoe-shaped and have angular edges.

Descriptions. Adult ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ). Head: Vertex roughly scaled, tawny. Antenna fuscous. Labial palpus ascending, grayish yellow; median segment expanded slightly; terminal segment pointed.

Thorax: Pale fuscous, dusted with tawny; posterior crest distinct. Hind tibia in male enlarged slightly, with one white hair pencil at base. Forewing length 10.5–11.0 mm, oblong; costa arched basally, apex blunt, termen oblique; markings blackish fuscous, suffused with ocherous; costal strigulae white, striae from them leaden; basal fascia very narrow; strigulae one and two extending to base of dorsum; subbasal fascia a little broad, extending from 1/5 length of costa to 1/4 length of dorsum, proximal edge concaved gently, distal edge protruding, forming an angle between midlength of Sc and 1/3 length of fold, concaved between fold and dorsum; strigulae three and four extending to 1/3 length of dorsum, striae from them dark leaden below cell, stria from stirgula four protruding, forming a sharp angle on cell and confluent with that from strigula five on upper angle of cell; median fascia interfered by stria from strigula four and divided into two parts, a quadrate blotch between costa and distal 1/3 length of upper edge of cell, and an irregular shaped patch between distal part of cell and fold, lower edge on fold between midlength and 3/4 length, distal edge reaching 1/5 length of M1, with a white dot inside outer edge of cell; stria of strigula five reaching midlength of dorsum via base of R5, midlength of M3 and CuA2, and 2/3 length of 1A+2A; strigula six interfered by postmedian fascia below costa, broadened posteriorly and reaching tornus; postmedian fascia including two parts, upper part between costa and median part of R5, more or less inverted triangular, upper edge between distal 1/4 lengths of R2 and R4, lower part below 2/3 length of R5, oblique rectangular, distal edge extending from termen between M1 and M2 to the distal part of CuA1; stria from strigula seven short; striae from eight and nine confluent at distal part of R4, then extending obliquely to termen between M1 and M2; preterminal fascia expressed by a deep fuscous line; terminal fascia slightly long, extending to termen between M1 and M2; cilia pale yellow, with deep fuscous baseline; underside pale yellowish fuscous, distal seven pairs of strigulae dark creamy, area of hindwing overlap white. Hindwing upperside pale fuscous except costal area of forewing overlap white; cubital pecten and anal fold present; cilia along termen and dorsum grayish white, white on anal margin; underside pale fuscous.

Abdomen: Male genitalia ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 5 – 10 ) with uncus a short hook, gradually narrowed backward, more or less triangular, sparsely spined. Socius elongate, narrow, densely spined. Valva with neck distinct; most of sacculus densely spined, distal part with a triangular prominence; neck narrow, nearly naked; cucullus about half of valva in length, densely spined. Phallus short, basal half thick and uniform in width, distal half narrowed gradually, pointed apically; cornuti absent. Female genitalia ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 5 – 10 ) with papillae anales narrow. Anterior and posterior apophyses slender, equal in length. Sterigma membranous. Ostium rounded. Colliculum indistinct. Ductus bursae membranous; corpus bursae ovoid, large, equal to ductus bursae in length; signa two large plates, unequal in size, somewhat flower petal-like, each with a thicken ridge medially, edges blunt.

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin angustatus (= narrowed), referring to the shape of valva.
