Type species. Akrobothrus ecuadoriensis View in CoL , new species.

Diagnosis. Akrobothrus is distinguished from other Bothrosternina genera by the following characters ( Table 1): Elytra depressed around the scutellum. Antennal club 3 segmented with first suture procurved and second suture recurved, elongate and parallel-side ( Fig. 1). Lateral margins of pronotum costate. Prothoracic intercoxal piece with a transverse, lateral subcarinate ridge.

Included species. This is currently a monotypic genus, including the 1 species ecuadoriensis from Ecuador.

Etymology. This genus is named Akrobothrus (gender masculine) from the Greek words akron (neuter), meaning ‘‘top’’ and bothrus (masculine), meaning ‘‘trench’’ or ‘‘pit.’’
