Geographic distribution: Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo, People`s Republic of Congo, Angola, Zambia, Namibia, South Africa, Malawi, Chad, Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Madagascar, Seychelles, Cap Verde, S. Thomas and Príncipe, Fernando Poo, southern Europe, Middle East and Asia.
Distribution in Guinea –Bissau: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11A, 11B, 13, 15, 18, 20, 24, 27, 36, 37B, 43, 44.

Remarks: A very common species, widely distributed throughout Africa, southern Europe, Middle East and Asia. Adults are active almost all over the year (dry and rainy seasons) in Guinea-Bissau, occurring at the edges of bogs, ponds, swamps, moors, rice fields, lakes and rivers. It can be attracted to light trapping and in some habitats (e.g. edges of bogs) is syntopic with M. flavidens , C. lutaria and/or C. octoguttata .
