Taxonomy. Callicebus bernhardi M. G. M. van Roosmalen et al., 2002 View in CoL ,
outskirts of the Nova Olinda settlement on the left (west) bank of the Rio Aripuana, 41 km south-west of the town of Novo Aripuana, in the Brazilian state of Amazonas (05° 30r 63” 8, 60°24 61” W).
C. bernhardi is a member of the C. moloch species group. Monotypic.
Distribution. S Brazilian Amazon Basin, S of the right (S) bank of the Rio Madeira, E of the lower Rio Jiparana and W to the rios Aripuana and Roosevelt; S limits of its distribution are unclear, but there may be a zone of contact or intergradation with the ranges of the Ashy Titi ( C. cinerascens ) and the White-eared Titi ( C. donacophilus ) in S Rondonia or N Mato Grosso states. Descriptive notes. Head—body 36-38 cm,tail ¢.55 cm; weight 700-1200 g. Prince Bernhard’s Titi is grayish-black above and on limbs, mixed with brownish-agouti or rustbrown on back. Underparts, inner surfaces of limbs, cheeks, and chin are dark orange.
Face is black, as are ears, having conspicuous whitish tufts. Hands and feet are silverywhite, and tail is black, with a white tip.
Habitat. Lowland terra firma rainforest. Groups of Prince Bernhard’s Titis have been observed primarily in secondary and disturbed forest habitats and even rubber plantations.
Food and Feeding. There is no information available for this species.
Breeding. There is no specific information available for this species, but all titis form monogamous breeding pairs. The male provides parental care by carrying the single offspring.
Activity patterns. There is no information available for this species.
Movements, Home range and Social organization. There is no information available for this species.
Status and Conservation. CITES Appendix II. Classified as Least Concern on The [UCN Red List. Although Prince Bernhard’s Titi is found in a relatively remote region of the Amazon Basin, ongoing colonization south and west of this area, in particular in Rondonia, may be a threat in the near future.
