TYPE LOCALITY: Paraguay, restricted to "a 27° de lat. sur" by Cabrera (1958) .
DISTRIBUTION: Uruguay, S Brazil, SE Paraguay, and NE Argentina.
STATUS: CITES - Appendix III ( Uruguay).
SYNONYMS: dasycercus G. Fischer, 1814; gymnurus Olfers, 1818; nudicaudus Lund, 1839.
