Subshrub 0.2–0.4 m; young branches glabrous. Leaves 3.2–11.2 × 1.3–5.4 cm, opposite, short-petiolate, elliptic to ovate; apex acute, acuminate to rounded; base rounded, obtuse to cuneate; glabrous on both surfaces, glands dense and pustule-like, protruding to immersed on the upper surface; margin entire; midvein sulcate, plane to slightly protruding at the distal portion of the upper surface, prominent on the lower surface, glabrous on both surfaces; lateral veins 10–14 pairs, brochidodromous, the marginal vein simple, 0.8–3.9 mm from the edge; petiole 1.2–3 × 1.1–2.1 mm. Inflorescence a raceme, rarely an umbelliform raceme, with 1–3 pairs of flowers, axillary, peduncle absent or up to 13.2 mm, glabrous; rachis absent or up to 14.6 mm, glabrous; bracts 1.4–3.7 mm, orbicular to lanceolate; pedicels 6.4–16.1 mm, glabrous; bracteoles 1.2–1.8 mm, free, elliptical, the apex acute, glabrous, the border ciliate, trichomes brown, simple, persistent until fruiting; flower buds 3.5–4.8 mm diam, globose; hypanthium glabrous, densely glandulose, with very prominent glands; calyx 4-lobeb, the lobes unequal, the outer pair 1.6–6 × 2.8–3.8 mm, the inner pair 1.6–3 × 2–2.8 mm, deltoid to orbicular, the apex acute to rounded, both surfaces glabrous, densely glandulose, the margin ciliate, the trichomes pale brown, simple, persistent until fruiting; petals 4, white, equal, 5.0– 6.7 mm long, spatulate to oblong, the apex rounded, the glands very prominent; staminal ring glabrous, the stamens 112–122; filaments 4.1–5.9 mm; anthers elliptic to oblong, eglandular; style 8–8.5 mm long, glabrous; ovary 2-locular, ovules 10–18 per locule.

Fruits 13.3–30.4 × 12.1–33 mm, red at maturity, subglobose to ellipsoid, glabrous, the glands prominent; seed 1, the testa crustaceous to woody.

Distribution:—Until now E. corrientina was considered endemic to the Paraguayan Cerrado (WCSP 2015). The current records from Brazil are located in or around Mineiros in the state of Goiás.

Habitat:—In Brazil, Eugenia corrientina grows in the campo sujo (shrubby grassland), between 700– 850 m.

Notes:— Eugenia corrientina is distinct by its discolorous leaves, with the adaxial surface blackish and the abaxial one cupreous when dry with numerous prominent glands and usually well developed raceme-like inflorescences.
