Type genus: Aegidium Westwood, 1845: 440 ( Westwood 1845 a)

Remark: The type genus was described three times in 1845 by Westwood (1845 a: 440, 1845 c: 158) and Blanchard (1845: 221). The earliest know publication dates for these papers are as follows: Westwood 1845 a: 1 June 1845 ( Evenhuis 2003), Blanchard 1845: 28 June 1845 ( Evenhuis 1997), and Westwood 1845 c: 25 November 1845 ( Wheeler 1912). Therefore Westwood (1845 a) has priority and must be considered the publication that first made Aegidium available under the ICZN.
