General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa east to Philippines, Samoa and Tonga.

Remark: A single specimen was recorded from the Mediterranean (see Vella et al 2015).

Remark: Previous Red Sea records of Lutjanus bengalensis (non Bloch 1790) are most probably based on this species (see Iwatsuki et al. 2016).

General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa east to southern Japan, Philippines and Solomon Islands.

Remark: Two specimens were recorded in the Mediterranean, probably aquarium escapees ( Zenetos et al 2016; Deidum and Piraino, 2017).
