2. Peponidium celastroides (Baker) Kainulainen & Razafimandimbison View in CoL , comb. nov.
Basionym:— Plectronia celastroides Baker (1877: 146) .
≡ Canthium sechellense Summerhayes (1928: 391) View in CoL .
Type :— SEYCHELLES. Mahé, “Common in damp shady forests of Mahé above 2000 ft. ”, 1874, J. M. Horne 508 (lectotype, K, barcode K000412460 , designated here, isolectotype, K, barcode K000412459 ; syntype, J. M. Horne 403, K, barcode K000412457 ) .
Note:— Baker (1877) listed two syntypes, Horne 403 and Horne 508 (both at K) when describing Plectronia celastroides Baker (1877: 146) . The specimen Horne 508 ( K, barcode K 000412460) is selected as lectotype since it has flowers and a fruit, and is in better condition than Horne 403 ( K).
In addition, two species described as Canthium from Madagascar have been overlooked—the poorly known Canthium homolleanum Cavaco (1972: 226) and C. bakerianum Drake (1897: pl. 437). Subsessile inflorescences and the absence of involucral bracts indicate that these species belongs to Peponidium .
