Gonatopus tenuipes Esaki & Hashimoto 1931: 27 (synonymized by Olmi 1984); type locality: Fukuoka (Fukuoka Pref., Japan).

Gonatopus euscelidivorus Xu & He in Xu et al. 1999b: 87; type locality: Wuming (Guangxi, China); He & Xu 2002: 344; Guglielmino & Olmi 2006: 51; syn. nov.

Gonatopus nilaparvatae Xu & Yang in Xu et al. 1999b: 88 (synonymized by He & Xu 2002); type locality: Guigang (Guangxi, China); He & Xu 2002: 340; Guglielmino & Olmi 2006: 49.

Description of female Apterous; length 2.2–4.0 mm. Head testaceous, occasionally with vertex darkened; antenna brown, except segments 1–2 testaceous; occasionally antenna totally testaceous; prothorax, scutum and scutellum testaceous, occasionally with weak dark spots on lateral regions of pronotum; metanotum black, or testaceous with lateral regions black; rest of mesosoma black, except distal apex of propodeum testaceous; petiole black; metasoma testaceous-dark, or brown with segment 1 partly testaceous; legs testaceous. Antenna weakly clavate; antennal segments in following proportions: 9:6:13:10:8:8:6:6:6:7. Head excavated, shiny, unsculptured or weakly granulated; frontal line complete; occipital carina absent; temple prominent; POL = 3; OL = 3; OOL = 14. Palpal formula 4/2, 5/2. Pronotum shiny, smooth, weakly granulated, crossed by strong transverse impression. Scutum very narrow and long ( Plate 131E View PLATE 131 ). Metanotum flat, transversely striate, much longer than scutellum. Metathorax + propodeum very prominent ( Plate 131E View PLATE 131 ), shiny, with anterior surface unsculptured and posterior surface transversely striate. Mesopleuron and metapleuron transversely striate. Meso-metapleural suture obsolete. Fore tarsal segments in following proportions: 15:2:4:13:20. Enlarged claw ( Plate 131F View PLATE 131 ) with one small subapical tooth and five–seven peg-like hairs. Segment 5 of protarsus ( Plate 131F View PLATE 131 ) with inner margin proximally serrated, with one row of 12–14 lamellae; distal apex with 9–12 lamellae. Tibial spurs 1/0/1.

Male. Unknown.

Material examined. Types: ♀ holotype of G. schenklingi : CHINA: Taiwan, Tainan City, Anping , 13.VI.1911, H. Sauter leg. ( DEI); ♀ holotype of G. tenuipes : Japan, Kyushu, Fukuoka Pref ., Fukuoka, 1.X.1930, S. Hashimoto leg. ( ELKU); ♀ holotype of G. euscelidivorus : CHINA: Guangxi, Wuming County, 108°02'N 23°01'E, 11.VIII.1982, Shaolong Yang reared from Recilia dorsalis ( Motschulsky ) (ZJUC); ♀ holotype of G. nilaparvatae : CHINA: Guangxi, Guigang City, 109°06'N 23°01'E, IX.1983, Shaolong Yang leg., indicated for mistake as parasitoid of Nilaparvata lugens ( Stål) (ZJUC) . Other material. CHINA: Hainan, Bawangling National Nature Reserve, 19.VIII.2000, in football field, M. Olmi reared from adult of Cicadellidae ( MOLC) . INDIA: Karnataka, Bangalore, VI.1922, ex Athysanus sp. , T.V. Subramanian leg., 1♀ ( BMNH). Palaearctic: JAPAN: Honshu, Ibaraki Pref., Tsukuba , NIAES, 27.X–13.XI.1989, 1♀ ( CNC).

Hosts. Cicadellidae ( Guglielmino & Olmi, 1997, 2006, 2007): in China: Nephotettix cincticeps (Uhler) ( Guglielmino & Olmi, 2006) ; Recilia dorsalis (Motschulsky) ( Xu et al., 1999b; as Gonatopus euscelidivorus Xu & He ); Doratulina sp. ; in India: Athysanus sp. ( Olmi, 1984) . According to Xu et al. (1999b), G. schenklingi can parasitize also Nilaparvatae lugens (Stål) ; this record is erroneous. G. schenklingi cannot parasitize Delphacidae .

Distribution. China ( Taiwan, Guangxi, Hainan), India (Karnataka), Japan (Kyushu, Honshu).

Remarks. Gonatopus euscelidivorus is here synonymized with G. schenklingi after study of its type. No differences were found. G. schenklingi is very similar to the Palaearctic G. lunatus Klug, 1810 . However, the stalk between pronotum and metathorax + propodeum is longer in G. schenklingi than in G. lunatus . In addition, the anterior surface and disc of metathorax + propodeum is smooth and unsculptured in G. schenklingi , whereas in G. lunatus these regions are slightly or strongly granulated.
