Copytus coromandalensis Shyam Sunder et al., 1995 or Neocytherideis coromandalensis ( Shyam Sunder et al., 1995) ?

This species was described for the Goguleru Creek (central east coast of India), where it is abundant in both living and dead assemblages; however, only carapace morphology was studied. The authors considered some similarity between their new species and Copytus rara McKenzie, 1967 (see previous chapter on this species). However, Shyam Sunder et al. (1995) stated that these two ostracods are different species, while Copytus sp. cf. C. rara figured by Jain (1978) would be more similar to C. coromandalensis than McKenzie’s species. Internally, C. coromandalensis bears the adductor scars in a vertical row of four and a V-shaped frontal imprint, as in Neocytherideis .
