HOLOTYPE: AMNH 559526 About AMNH , adult male, collected in the Baguezane (Bagzane) Mts. , 17°40′N, 08°45′E ( R. Dowsett, personal commun.), 5200 ft, Air, Niger, on 27 May 1920, by Capt. Angus Buchanan (no. 643). From the Rothschild Collection. GoogleMaps

COMMENTS: Buchanan’s field number was cited in the original description. Hartert (1921a: 112) listed five specimens in addition to the type, but only four of those specimens came to AMNH with the Rothschild Collection. The specimen list ed as collected on Mt. Baguezane on 9 May 1920 was not among them. The four paratypes are AMNH 559527–559530. Other specimens of this taxon were collected after 1921.

Cramp (1988: 248) placed this species in the genus Ptyonoprogne .
