Type material. Holotype: Rwanda (Western Province): ♂, two labels: “AFRIKA/Rwanda / Cyangugu / Nyakabuye / 15.- 24.4.1983 / leg. H. Mühle ” [white, printed]; “ POMPHOPSILLA / cyanguguana m. / P. Jałoszyński, ‘21 / HOLOTYPUS ” [red, printed] ( MNHW) . Paratype: ♀, same data as for holotype except for 14.2-28.3.83, and standard yellow “ PARATYPUS ” label (disarticulated in Canada balsam) (cPJ) .

Diagnosis. Entire dorsum in both sexes with fine, inconspicuous punctures, appearing impunctate at magnification 80×; aedeagus in ventral view with truncate apex, median portion of its distal margin shallowly emarginate; endophallus with median bell-shaped structure flanked in subapical region by pair of dense groups of needle-like sclerites; apices of parameres not exceeding apex of aedeagus.

Description. Body of male ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–4 ) elongate, strongly convex, brown with slightly lighter setae. BL 0.78 mm.

Head broadest at large, strongly convex and coarsely faceted eyes, HL 0.10 mm, HW 0.18 mm; vertex strongly transverse, weakly convex, anteriorly confluent with subtriangular and similarly weakly convex frons; supraantennal tubercles small but distinct; punctures on frons and vertex inconspicuous, very fine and superficial; setae very short and sparse, recumbent; frontal glands present but barely discernible, each situated behind supraantennal tubercle and near mesal margin of eye, only slightly wider than single ommatidium. Antenna moderately long, with abruptly broadened club composed of two antennomeres, AnL 0.33 mm, antennomeres 1 and 2 elongate, 3–10 each about as long as broad, 11 slightly broader and longer than 10, indistinctly elongate.

Pronotum subrectangular with broadly rounded anterior corners, broadest near anterior fourth; PL 0.23 mm, PW 0.28 mm. Anterior margin strongly rounded; anterior corners in strictly dorsal view not visible; sides barely noticeably sinuate, weakly convergent posterad, indistinctly microserrate; posterior corners obtuse-angled; posterior margin with narrow and subtriangular emargination in front of mesoscutellum, sides of posterior margin barely noticeably concave and weakly converging posterad; pronotal base with two pairs of deep, distinct pits, distance between inner pair much wider than between each inner and outer pit. Punctures on pronotal disc fine and superficial, unremarkable; setae moderately dense, short and weakly suberect; those on lateral margins slightly longer and suberect; in addition to basic vestiture two pairs of longer setae are situated near posterior pronotal margin, in hind angles and at sides of median emargination.

Elytra oval, broadest between middle and anterior third; EL 0.45 mm, EW 0.35 mm, EI 1.29; humeral calli small but distinct, slightly elongate. Punctures as indistinct as those on head and pronotum; setae similar to those on pronotum. Hind wings well developed.

Legs moderately long and slender, unmodified.

Aedeagus ( Figs 11–12 View FIGURES 9–16 ) stout, oval, AeL 0.15 mm; diaphragm indistinct; apex of ventral wall truncate and broadly, weakly rounded, apex of dorsal wall subtrapezoidal and shallowly emarginate at middle; endophallus with median bell-shaped structure flanked in subapical region by two dense groups of needle-like sclerites; parameres slender, their apices not reaching apex of aedeagus, each with one short apical seta.

Female. Externally similar to male but with slightly smaller eyes. BL 0.78 mm; HL 0.10 mm, HW 0.18 mm, AnL 0.31 mm; PL 0.23 mm, PW 0.28 mm; EL 0.45 mm, EW 0.35 mm, EI 1.29. Internal pronotal ‘cavities’ ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5–8 ) drop-shaped, much longer than procoxal cavities.

Distribution. South-western part of Rwanda ( Fig. 17 View FIGURE 17 ).

Etymology. After the city Cyangugu in Rwanda.

Remarks. Adults of this species are externally unremarkable and the aedeagus must be examined to identify P. cyanguguana . The shape of the aedeagal apex is unique among all known Pomphopsilla species , with shallowly emarginate distal margin of the dorsal wall.
