Diagnosis. This species often has longitudinal striping on the vertex and pronotum and a single dark spot in the base of the second anteapical cell. This colouring is similar to that of M. irwini . However, M. veta is easily differentiated from other Australian species of the genus by the presence of a long curved aedeagal process beyond the gonopore ( Knight 1975: Fig. 20f).

Distribution. Australia (ACT, NSW, NT, Vic, WA, NZ)

Note: The specific name given to the species by Knight (1975) is the Latin word for "old" and is therefore an adjective. With the transfer of the species to Maiestas Distant, which is female, the species name needs to be amended to the feminine form veta .
