Distribution.

China, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia.

Ecology.

Common in evergreen forest or on rugged limestone area, 100–2,150 m alt. Flowering and fruiting from August to March.

Preliminary conservation status assessment.

This species has an Extent of Occurrence ( EOO) of 250,984.816 km 2 and an Area of Occupancy ( AOO) of 64.000 km 2 and is assessed as Least Concern ( LC) following IUCN (2022).

Notes.

Pierre ’ s collection was cited in the protologue of S. pierrei ( Benoist 1934) . This collection has five duplicates, there are three at P [ P 00218442, P 00719405, P 00204977], one at A [ A 00286777] and one at NY [00278319]. All specimens bear Benoist ’ s handwriting as follows: “ Strobilanthes pierrei R. Benn. ”. However, P 00218442 has more leaves and inflorescences; therefore, it is selected as the lectotype. The others are isolectotypes.
