Peliosanthes labroyana L.Pierre ex Rodriguez (1934a: 96) View in CoL , ‘ labroyanus

Material cited in the protologue:― Tonkin (Regnier).

Type (lectotype, designated here):― Vietnam. Cochinchina australis dicitur, coll. A. Regnier s.n., cult. in Hort. Bot. Paris., May 1905, Labroy s.n. ( P, barcode P 00214604!).

Other original material examined:― Cult. in Hort. Bot. Paris. , 23 April 1920 ( P, barcode P00753585 *) ; Hort. Bot. Parisiensis, 1923 ( P, barcode P01851596 *). [Illustration]: A sheet of drawings made by E. Delpy in May 1905 of an inflorescence and flowers from the same plant as the lectotype under the name of Peliosanthes labroyana Pierre , attached to the lectotype. Some of them are reproduced in Rodriguez (1934b: 671, fig. 66-1–8). [Manuscript with illustration]: An unpublished manuscript by Pierre with some drawings of floral parts from the same plant as the lectotype titled “ Peliosanthes labroyana sp. nov. ”, attached to the lectotype .

Note:―According to the unpublished manuscript by Pierre attached to the lectotype, the original habitat of this species is “ Tonkin ”, although it is noted as “ Cochinchina australis dicitur” in the label on the sheet. Rodriguez (1934a, b) cited “ Tonkin ” as the habitat for this species. Drawings of this species in Rodriguez (1934b: 671) are based on both the lectotype (fig. 66-2–8) and P 00753585 (fig. 66-1). Peliosanthes labroyana is morphologically close to P. macrostegia Hance ( Tanaka 2018), so it might represent a heterotypic synonym of the latter. However, further studies based on living plants from the original habitat (probably Tonkin, northern Vietnam) are needed to determine the identity.
