Type Locality: Liberia, Mt Coffee.
Vernacular Names: Defua Dephomys.
Distribution: Specimens are from Sierra Leone, Guinea (Mt Nimbo), Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, and Ghana (derived from references cited below and specimens we examined).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Part of the murine fauna endemic to West Africa (see account of Grammomys buntingi ). Taxonomy, morphology, range, and habits reviewed by Rosevear (1969) and Van der Straeten (1984). Grubb et al. (1998) reviewed populations in Ghana and Sierra Leone.
