When describing Catops meridionalis Peck and Cook (2002:772) of the southeastern United States, we overlooked the fact that the name is a homonym of C. meridionalis Aubé (1850:326). We thank our colleague Michel Perreau for bringing this to our attention. We therefore provide the replacement name Catops neomeridionalis, new

name, for Catops meridionalis Peck and Cook 2002 (not Catops meridionalis Aubé (1850)). We note that C. meridionalis Aubé has long been recognized as a junior synonym of C. marginicollis Lucas (1846: 224), and it is known from Algeria, Tunisia, and Egypt.
