Remarks. Davideanu et al. (2000) recorded V. saulii from Aiud ( Alba county) and erroneously considered it as the first record in Romania. However, the species had already been mentioned a few years earlier by Kecskés (1997). Among the Veliinae , V. saulii has the widest distributional range in Romania, as well as in Europe. We found it in mountainous and hilly areas, excepting Maramureș (northern Romania) and Dobrogea (south-eastern Romania) where it is missing. Its altitudinal range varied between 100 and 1100 m a.s.l. General distribution. West Euro-Siberian species. Widely distributed in most Europe except its Mediterranean regions ( Tamanini 1951; Andersen 1995; Coulianos et al. 2008).
